Information for Authors

Here we give information on the submission process to the conference and the preparation of the presentation of your work during the conference.

PRESENTATION OF YOUR WORK

Oral presentations

If your paper has been accepted for oral presentation, you will present your work during the paper sessions. The length of the presentation depends on the type of your paper:

  • Long papers: 15min presentation + 3min for questions
  • Short papers: 10min presentation + 3min for questions

Your are asked to use your own laptop for the presentation in order to avoid incompatibility between slide formats. In case you cannot use your own laptop, we will provide a desktop computer that can be used. In this case, please prepare your presentation as a single PDF file without embedded media.

During the conference, you will have to get into contact with your session’s chair before the beginning of the session in order to test the technical aspects of your presentation (video, sound) and to introduce you to the session’s chair.

Posters

You are responsible for the printing and setup of your poster. The format of the poster must be either: A0 portrait, or A1 portrait/landscape. Please be aware we are not able to accommodate A0 in landscape format. For each author, we will provide a poster board and push pins or wall clips.

If you want to print your poster in London, we suggest you to contact the printing shop linked below. The overall cost is £30, that is, £20 printing plus £10 delivery at our office. If you choose this option: a) confirm with the shop that they will be able to print and deliver your poster on time for the conference, and b) please let us know, so that we will look out for your poster.

Please be aware that the shop is not affiliated with Goldsmiths nor NIME, therefore we cannot be involved in this process nor check the quality of the printing for you.

Demos

You are responsible for the setup of your demo. For each demo, we will provide a table, a poster board, push pins or wall clips and power sockets. The maximum space available for each demo is 230cm x 200cm. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide further equipment, if you wish to bring additional equipment, please let us know beforehand to deal with the logistics. In case you should require any specific information, please contact the Poster & Demo chairs.

SUBMISSION OF YOUR WORK

Template

NIME uses one format for most of the submissions part of the scientific programme: papers, demonstrations.

Note that all contributions submitted as a paper or demonstration must use the provided template.

Note that only papers and demos submitted to NIME 2014 must be anonymized: authors are expected to remove author and institutional identities from the paper. If you are submitting a Performance, Installation, Workshop or Tutorial, proposals DO NOT need to be anonymized.

Review Process

After you submit your paper, it will go through a rigorous review process that has been changed compared to the previous years. Overall, the review process comprises three layers of evaluation: reviewer, meta-reviewer and scientific chairs. The process is as follows:

  • Each paper is assigned to one meta-reviewer who is a representative of the general research topic that the paper deals with.
  • The meta-reviewer together with the scientific chairs are assigning the papers to the reviewers that will evaluate it according to a set of criteria. Each paper has at least two reviewers.
  • The meta-reviewer writes a meta-review based on the reviewers’ comments. The meta-reviewer may ask further details to a reviewer in case the produced comments are too concise.
  • The scientific chairs gather reviews and meta-reviews. They discuss with the meta-reviewers and finalize a decision for each paper.
  • The anonymity of the submission is preserved all along the review process.
