Submission Information: Interactive Sound Installations (NEW THIS YEAR)

SUBMISSION DATE: JANUARY 15, 2005

At the University of British Columbia, we are creating a new high-tech atrium that contains a multichannel sound and video scape platform that will be complete by December 15, 2004. The space is intended to house interactive sound and video installation works. As an experiment for this year's NIME, we are soliciting for proposals for an Installation Track to create interactive installation works in this space.

Installation Selection Committee: Garth Paine, Gideon D'Arcangelo, Tina Blaine, Sidney Fels.

Local installation coordinators: Steve Yohanan, Meghan Deutscher, Reynald Hoskinson, Sachiyo Takahashi

Atrium space and infrastructure:

The entire atrium space that we are building is available to be used for installations. As well, we will have various pieces of audio and video input/output devices, mixers, sensors etc. available that can be used in your installations to augment any equipment you may need. We will try to be flexible in accommodating equipment needs to help realize your installation, thus, we expect that considerable coordination will be needed with our local organization committee.

Technical drawings and artists 3D rendering concepts of the atrium space area are available to give you an idea of what will be available. Also available are photos of the space.

A list of audio and video equipment is also available here.

Questions about the atrium and equipment may be directed to the NIME installation coordinators.

Guidelines

Please put together a single PDF file with the above information (personal information, proposal, setup diagram, equipment). For the demo audio/video sample, include in the PDF on a separate page, a URL where the coordinators can download the movie (e.g. webserver, ftp server). If you are unable to make the movie available via the internet, please contact the NIME installation coordinators.

Please submit your completed PDF document using the online submission system.

Please use the templates provided by ACM SIG for your paper. Templates are available for both Microsoft Word and LaTeX. If you decide to use the Word templates, be sure to use the paragraph styles defined in the template instead of manually formatting your text. Then create your PDF file. See the NIME 2004 online proceedings for formatted paper samples.

Please note that the "Categories and Subject Descriptors" and "General Terms" sections may be deleted from the ACM templates. However, please keep the "Keywords" section and choose a few words to help categorize your paper. In addition, the ACM copyright box on the first page should be deleted.

Audio samples should be submitted in mp3 or aiff format. Video samples should be submitted in Quicktime format.

If you have any problems or questions, please contact the NIME installation coordinators. Be sure to also check out the Installations FAQ.
