Metro/Bus information

The local transportation is handled by the RATP (Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens) running the Metro and the RER (Réseau Express Régional - local train network getting a little further out of town than the Metro).

Several kinds of tickets and passes are available for travelling within Paris and its surburbs (fr.: banlieue).
Transportation boundaries are defined by zones. Check out the RATP website and select "zone map". The Charles-De-Gaulle Airport is located in zone 5, while IRCAM is in the center of Paris in zone 1. Most tickets are valid for zone 1&2, covering inner Paris.

Here are the different flavors of tickets for the local transportation networks you might be interested in:

Airport tickets: Tickets from/to the Charles-De-Gaulle and Orly airports are about 8 euros (RER B is direct to/from the Les-Halles RER station next to IRCAM). If you look for a return ticket... just buy two.

Metro tickets: The ordinary Metro tickets are valid on all Metro lines and the RER network within Paris (zones 1&2). Better buy a pack of 10 tickets (fr.: carnet) for 10.70 EUR, than single tickets for 1.40 EUR each. A Metro ticket is one-way with as many changes as you need, if you stay inside the Metro network.

Week pass: The week pass is called Carte Orange (literally "orange card"). It allows you to freely travel on the Metro and RER network. Within Paris, the minimum subscription is zone 1&2 (inner Paris) for 15.70 EUR. Be sure to get the week pass, since the monthly one is also called Carte Orange. You have to buy the pass from the counter (it is not available from automatic vending machines) and provide a photo in ID format.

Mobilis daily pass: if you plan to massively use the Metro and the suburban transportation during one single day, ask for the Mobilis daily pass. For the zone 1&2 (inner Paris) it is 5.40 EUR (not available from automatic vending machines).

PARIS Visite: This pass exists for several durations. The minimum subscription is for zone 1 to 3. The single say full fare is 8.35 EUR, 3 days are 18.25 EUR. No photo required. Reduced prices for children. The pass is only available at the counter (not from automatic vending machines).

Depending on where your hotel is, and how often you travel, here are some examples of tickets you might want to buy:

Plane transportation, moderate tourism, hotel within walking distance:
   - return ticket from/to the Airport (RER B)
   - single metro tickets or a carnet of Metro tickets

Plane transportation, Club NIME concert setup, hotel not within walking distance:
   - return ticket from/to the Airport (RER B)
   - a carnet of Metro tickets or a week pass zone 1&2 (>= 5 days)

Plane transportation, massive tourism a single day:
   - return tickets to Airport
   - Mobilis pass and a carnet of metro tickets

Perched on the slopes of Montmartre, next door to the celebrated Bateau Lavoir of Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso and many other famous painters, the location of this hotel is one of the most desirable in Paris. Set beside a quaint chestnut tree square and a Wallace Fountain, it looks like a scene from a picture postcard.
