Abstract:

Measurement of pianists' arm movement provides a signal, which is composed of controlled movements and noise. Thenoise is composed of uncontrolled movement generated bythe interaction of the arm with the piano action and measurement error. We propose a probabilistic model for armtouch movements, which allows to estimate the amount ofnoise in a joint. This estimation helps to interpret the movement signal, which is of interest for augmented piano andpiano pedagogy applications.
