Abstract:

scoreLight is a playful musical instrument capable of generating sound from the lines of drawings as well as from theedges of three-dimensional objects nearby (including everyday objects, sculptures and architectural details, but alsothe performer's hands or even the moving silhouettes ofdancers). There is no camera nor projector: a laser spotexplores shapes as a pick-up head would search for soundover the surface of a vinyl record --- with the significant difference that the groove is generated by the contours of thedrawing itself.
